I first started painting signal control boxes in 2001 with the Long Beach East Village Arts District. They designated one week for artists to work and we all went out in a party atmospere and painted. It was a lot of fun and the results were wildly different. This lead to a more organized effort at community beautification by the Long Beach Redevelopment Agency who juried a group of artists in 2010 to paint throughout the city. I was lucky enough to reveive contracts to paint five more Long Beach boxes. I recently painted four boxes in the City of Los Angeles - two at the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Western Avenue and another two at the Wilshire Boulevard and Normandie. I am working on designs for another box at the corner of Wilshire and Shatto to be installed by the end of December. Click on the images to see details, Google maps and see Google Street Views
